What goes into making a quality spool of filament
The UUID
A UUID is a randomly generated number that is unique to your spool, and allows us to easily track it in our database.
The SKU
The SKU is the recipe we use to make the spool right for you, and helps us determine the color, diameter, and polymer of the filament.
The Creation Time
We keep track of this so you can know how old the spool is, and so if there are any defect it helps us keep track of other ambient variables such as temperature and weather.
The Maximum Deviation
This is the maximum the filament deviates from it’s diameter spec in um. This is important to ensure that your printer can reliably place down a consistant amount of polymer ensuring your prints are as high of quality as you can manage. Our tolerance for 1.75mm filament is ±50um, or about 3%.
The Color Deviation
Measured as the percentage at which the color deviates from the SKU recipe, this ensures that you order the color you want every time.
The Net Weight
This is the weight of the filament on your spool. If you order 1kg, it should be close to 1kg.
The Gross Weight
This is the weight of the filament plus the weight of the spool. If you were to take the spool out of the package and weigh it, this is what you would read.
The Length
The length varies depending on the weight of the spool and the density of the polymer. This is useful for determining how many prints you can get off a spool.
